Champlain College is gearing up to offer students their first online Master’s degree program. The Masters of Fine Arts in Emergent Media is not only a unique online degree program offered at Champlain College, it is a degree program that will ready students for the future of media.

This degree program helps students ride the wave of the advances in a variety of media platforms including video games, stop-motion animation, and virtual environments. This degree is a spinoff of Champlain College’s already existing Emergent Media Center, and prepares students for careers in organizations including IBM and the United Nations.

Since a majority of the younger and some of the older generations have joined the social media networks, are Twittering, Facebook-ing and MySpace-ing, not to mention blogging, creating videos for YouTube and other video websites, technology and social networking has become the norm in our day-to-day lives. This program caters to the creative and technical side of the field, helping students cultivate their technical skills while also focusing on the business skills.

Champlain calls their new MFA program an “experiential, community-based learning environment [that] will thoroughly prepare you for a successful career as a thought leader in emergent media while showing you how to recognize and shape the forces of change. Whether you want to create the next cool app, design a game that makes the world a better place, or write the next chapter of human innovation, this is your starting point.” (from Champlain College’s official website)

The MFA in Emergent Media program sets students on the path to not only follow the trends of contemporary media, but also set those trends moving forward. Tuition for this program is $900 per credit hour with a total of 60 credits, and applications for the Fall 2010 semester are due May 1, 2010. Late applications will be considered if space becomes available. For more information on Champlain College and all of their online programs including undergraduate degrees, visit this link.
