When I first saw that Liberty University offered a degree in Marketplace Chaplaincy, I had no idea what they meant. I originally imagined a side street filled with booths where people sold their wares like fruit, textiles, handmade pottery, flowers, and then there was the Chaplain with his own booth reading from the Bible and foretelling the future and what it had in store for us. Everything was dusty and dingy and everyone was wearing brown, or possibly just very dirty white, clothing.
Ok, so I was a bit off the mark on that one. Marketplace Chaplaincy brings the role of the chaplain to today’s marketplace, ie, today’s corporations and organizations, and work sites. The life of a servant of God doesn’t just stay within the confines of the church any longer. Marketplace Chaplains visit work sites and companies, both large and small, to offer guidance, consolation, and help to the employees who seek it. They are there to discuss matters concerning workplace issues as well as personal. Get more information on Marketplace Chaplaincy here: MS in Marketplace Chaplaincy.
