Northeastern University’s Masters in Taxation

April 15 has finally come and gone which marks the end of Tax Season for most Americans. However between January and April 15th of every year, you can find accountants and tax experts at a variety of major big box stores or setting up kiosks in local malls. However, once the calendar turns to April 16, that doesn’t mean that the life of an accountant, especially  one in the expertise of taxation, is over. Both Americans and their businesses require up-to-the minute tax information year-round to make sure they are handling their finances in accordance with IRS tax laws. Knowing they have an accountant with the knowledge they need puts them at ease.

So how does one prepare for such a task? Northeastern University can help with their Masters of Science in Taxation degree. As for the course itself, to graduate, students must earn 30 credits. Half of these are electives and the other half are required courses. Many students tend to take this program on a part-time basis, since classes meet after 5pm on-campus. The Masters in Taxation program starts at three different times in the year, during the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms, so there’s no waiting around for the fall semester to start earning a degree. Students tend to earn this program in about 2 years while working full-time.

Required courses include:

  • Federal Tax Issues and Analysis
  • Corporations and Shareholders
  • Estate and Gift Taxation
  • Tax Research Methodology
  • Tax Practice, Procedures & Ethics
  • Partners and Partnerships

If you are a transfer students, you may transfer up to 9 credits towards the 30 required for graduation. The other 21 credits, however, must be completed within Northeaster University’s College of Business Administration, and a GPA of 3.0 is required to earn your Masters in Taxation degree.
