What is the AACSB?

In the process of searching for an online MBA program, there have been many things to consider. Should I do online or on-campus? Or maybe a combination of both? Are there any local schools that offer an MBA? What specialization should I choose?

While scrambling through college website upon college website, regardless of specialization or format, I kept seeing these five letters: A – A – C- S – B. After awhile, they were ingrained into my brain and I swear I had a dream about it last weekend. I finally decided I needed to know what AACSB was and thought that I could also share that information with you. To search for an accredited AACSB MBA program, visit here: AACSB accredited MBA.

I went to AACSB’s website (www.aacsb.edu) and found this: “AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business is an association of educational institutions, businesses, and other organizations devoted to the advancement of higher education in management education.” Not only that, it’s one of the primary accrediting institutions for business schools or colleges that offer business-related degrees.

The AACSB goes on to define their requirements qualifying for accreditation.

  • The institution seeking AACSB accreditation must be a member of AACSB International.
  • An institution seeking accreditation by AACSB must offer degree-granting programs in business or management.
  • Degree programs in business must be supported by continuing resources.
  • All degree programs in business offered by the institution at all locations will be reviewed simultaneously. (Exceptions will be made to exclude programs as noted below.)

The actual process of accreditation can be a very long process to complete including submitting the application, and reviewing every aspect of the school and business program. The quality of the actual courses, faculty training and contributions to the school are also included in the overall evaluation. Once the review is done, and the school and its business programs meets AACSB’s standards, it is awarded accreditation that can be displayed proudly, showing students that they can earn a quality education at their institution.
